Purim

Purim is always a celebration on Vanderbilt’s campus. Purim is celebrated with a public reading of the Book of Esther (Megillat Esther), which tells the story of the holiday.  In addition to reading the Megillah, celebrants dress in costumes, have festive parties, perform “Purim-spiels,” silly theatrical adaptations of the story of the Megillah, send baskets of food (mishloach manot) to friends, give gifts to the poor (matanot l’evyonim), and eating Hamantaschen, a three-cornered pastry.

Previous Purim events have included Hamantaschen Hotwheels, a lip sync battle, and Purim Family Feud Shabbat.
