Executive Board Profiles

Eligibility: All candidates for Hillel’s Executive Board must be a Vanderbilt undergraduate student for more than two semesters. Each position shall be held by one student, but students going abroad who wish to run with a partner may do so at the discretion of the Executive Director and Election Monitors.

Exec. Board Profiles:

President (Must have held an elected office of Vanderbilt University Hillel)

  • Run weekly Executive Board meetings, shaping Hillel’s vision and priorities
  • Attend Shabbats and other significant Hillel programs
  • Represent Hillel on campus and throughout the community
  • Sit on the Hillel Board of Directors

Vice President of Programming (Must have served on a committee or held an elected office of Vanderbilt University Hillel)

  • Oversee Hillel’s social programs  — including holiday-related social programs — bringing in a broad demographic spread
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting
  • Attend a minimum of two Shabbats a month
  • Attend all major Hillel programs, and all Program Board events
  • In absence of Board President, fulfill the duties of the President

Vice President of Membership  (Must have served on a committee or held an elected office of Vanderbilt University Hillel)

  • Oversee first-year programming, mostly on Commons
  • Second semester, integrate first-year students into rest of Hillel
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting
  • Attend a minimum of two Shabbats a month
  • Attend significant Hillel programs and events
  • Reach out to incoming first-years during the summer/early fall

Vice President of Religious Life (Must have served on the Religious Life Committee of Vanderbilt Hillel)

  • Oversee Shabbat services, ritual and religious events, and themed Shabbats
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting
  • Attend Shabbats and other significant Hillel programs
  • Represent Hillel on Vanderbilt Interfaith Council
  • Assist the President and Exec. Board in any matters pertaining to religious life at Hillel

Vice President of Israel Affairs (Must have served on ‘Dores for Israel of Hillel or one of our umbrella groups focusing on Israel advocacy)

  • Oversee Israel-related advocacy and social programming, including Falafel at Midnight
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting
  • Attend a minimum of two Shabbats a month
  • Attend all major Hillel programs, and all ‘Dores for Israel (DFI) events
  • Run Israel general body interest meetings in addition to DFI meetings

Vice President of Communications / Secretary

  • Assist with Hillel-wide communication strategy, including email, website, and social media
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting and take minutes
  • Attend a minimum of two Shabbats a month
  • Attend significant Hillel programs and events
  • Work with staff on newsletter, blog, and special communications projects as needed

Vice President of Finance / Treasurer

  • Oversee all Hillel-related AcFee funding
  • Attend weekly Executive Board meeting
  • Attend a minimum of two Shabbats a month
  • Assist with regular fundraising activities, including a Hillel phone-a-thon

Running for Exec. Board? What To Do

1) If you are running for Exec Board (President, Treasurer, VP of Communications [Secretary], VP of Membership, Religious Life VP, Israel VP, Programming Board VP):  Schedule a meeting with Ari Dubin, Executive Director.

2) After your meeting, officially declare in an email to Ari Dubin which position you are running for. Please note: declaration deadline is March 16th.

3) Participate in a Meet the Candidates night on March 16th, and give a speech explaining your running platform.

4) Campaign lasts through end-of-day of Hillel Elections, March 28th.

Hillel Board Profiles

If you are running to be a Board Member: there will be an online application process. Students can choose up to two boards to run for and will be selected by the VPs of their board, in cooperation with staff.

Program Board (ProBo)

  • Run by VP of Programming
  • Creates Hillel’s social programs, including holiday-related social programs
  • Brings in a broad demographic spread

Religious Life Committee (RLC)

  • Run by VP of Religious Life
  • Oversees Shabbat services and themed Shabbats
  • Creates ritual and religious events and programming

‘Dores For Israel (DFI)

  • Run by VP of Israel Affairs
  • Shapes Israel-related advocacy in tandem with our umbrella groups on campus (David Project, AIPAC, etc)
  • Creates Israel-related social programming, including Falafel at Midnight
