Last spring, a group of first year students decided to start a Vanderbilt chapter of Challah for Hunger. We had seen the organization at other colleges we had visited and it seemed like a great opportunity to bring it to our  own campus. We meet every other week on Thursday evenings at Hillel to bake the challah dough, braid it and even try out new flavors and toppings from pumpkin to cinnamon and sprinkles. Then on Fridays, we sell the challah to Jewish and non-Jewish students who all love it!

Our second year has already been a huge success. In honor of Rosh Hashanah, we baked apples and honey flavored challah and for Challahween we baked pumpkin challah!

Challah for Hunger has brought together students for a good cause, creating a community and making an impact. We donate half of our profits to Mazon, a national Jewish organization that fights hunger, and the Nashville Food Project, a local organization that aims to alleviate hunger here in Nashville. We are really excited to continue to grow and thrive in the future.
